Craft Beer & Music Festival: Pour Beer for a Cause!
Love beer and music? Why not volunteer to pour beer? BrewHaHa Productions will be holding the Punk in Drublic Craft Beer & Music Festival and they will be needing volunteers to pour beer on Sunday, October 15th 2017, from 11:00am to 4:00pm. Lunch and training will be provided prior to the scheduled shift. One drink voucher and a free entrance to the festival (with a $49 value) will be given as well! For every volunteer who signs up through the link below, the festival will give $50 to HandsOn Sacramento.

Hands Across I Street!
Let’s go out and hold hands! Join Mayor Steinberg, Supervisor Kennedy and hundreds of your neighbors to form a human chain from City Hall to the County Building to support a unified plan to end hunger & homelessness in our community. More than 250,000 of our neighbors go hungry every day while nearly 4,000 of our neighbors are homeless – 2,000 of which call the streets, alleys and parks “home”. Let’s stand together to say we can and will end & prevent hunger & homelessness! Please note that this event will happen rain or shine. We look forward to seeing you there!
Help Wind Youth Services Move to Their New Center
Wind Youth Services, in partnership with other homeless youth service providers, is opening a youth counseling center that will offer services in a one-stop location. The youth counseling center will be located in downtown Sacramento.
Please help Wind Youth on November 21st when they move to this new location. Volunteers are needed to load and unload heavy furniture to their new location. Work gloves, sturdy shoes and comfortable clothes are required to do this activity. Bringing your own cordless drill would be highly appreciated. Lunch and coffee will be provided.
Volunteers Needed for Free Dental Services Clinic
Yolo County Children’s Alliance, together with Tzu Chi Foundation, will be having their Free Dental Services Clinic on Sunday, October 29th. Volunteers who can speak Spanish, Russian or Farsi are needed to help with translating services for clients and dentists, doing intake forms for the clients and clean-up. Call time is at 8:00 am and volunteers will be given a quick volunteer orientation. Volunteers are highly encouraged to volunteer the whole day, but two 4-hour shifts are also available: 8:00 am-12:00 noon and 12:00 noon-4:00 pm. Lunch will be provided.
Volunteers are also needed to set-up the event at Westmore Oaks Elementary School (1100 Clarendon Street, West Sacramento) on Saturday, October 28th from 1:00-5:00 pm.
Volunteer Opportunities This Month
Helping Handbags Luncheon
Saturday, October 14th – The 13th Annual Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary’s Helping Handbags Luncheon and Auction is a wonderful event designed to raise funds to help women and children in our community. The event is held at McClellan Conference Center.
Volunteer duties may include:
1. Assist staff with registration and check out
2. Assist staff with silent auction
3. Assist staff with live auction
There will be a 9:15 am orientation
*Lunch will be provided
Fairytale Town’s Community Days
2nd Saturday of October-November – Volunteers are needed to help with monthly Sacramento Adventure Playground activities. Please wear closed toe shoes and clothing and shoes that can get dirty. It will be a fun day of building, playing, and making a mess! While the Sacramento Adventure Playground’s regular operating hours are designed for ages 7-15, the Playground opens up for children of all ages to come and play on Community Days. Advance registration is not required. Community Days are held on the second Saturday of the month (except December and January) from 11 AM to 3 PM. Volunteer shifts are from 10:30am-4pm. Community days are the 2nd Saturday of each month October-November. Adventure Playground is located at the Maple Neighborhood Center (formerly Maple Elementary School), 3301 37th Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95824.
Glenn Hall Adopt-a-Park Day
On Saturday, October 28th, join with Councilmember Jeff Harris, neighbors and friends for a clean-up day at Glenn Hall Park, 5415 Sandburg Drive, Sacramento. Volunteers will work from 9 am to noon to rake, prune, pick up trash and tidy up the park. Please bring work gloves if you have them, wear closed-toed shoes and clothing you don’t mind getting a little dirty.
Fall Family Festival
Monday October 30th – Lend a helping hand at Hagginwood Community Center for the Fall Family Festival on Monday, October 30th! Volunteers are needed from ages 15 and up to help from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Volunteer tasks include: carnival activities, serving food, handing out candy, checking in attendees and crowd control. Hagginwood Community Center is located at 3271 Marysville Blvd Sac 95815.
7th Annual Veterans Day Parade
Saturday, November 11th – Come show your support by volunteering to serve those who protect and serve our country domestically and globally. Morning and afternoon shifts are available. Volunteers will be expected to serve in various capacities. Some roles and responsibilities require heavy lifting, standing and walking. Register to volunteer and staff will contact you directly to complete additional volunteer forms. Volunteers needed for food preparation, cashier, dishwasher, and marketing
My Sister’s Café is a volunteer-based support program for My Sister’s House which helps domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking, survivors “get back on their feet” financially. Volunteers are needed for food preparation, cashier, dishwasher, server, and marketing.

Want to help Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services make an impact?Volunteers are always needed to help sort donations, package food and bag produce. Come and help put food on the table for families and individuals in our community!
Monday-Friday 9am-1pm and Saturday 8am-1pm.
SFBFS offers volunteer orientation 1-2 times per week. You must first attend a volunteer orientation before you can volunteer for an available shift.
Salvation Army’s Sorting & Packing Food: Tues Wed & Thurs (Ongoing)
Help get fresh produce and groceries to people in need!
Volunteers will help sort and bag donations of fresh produce and perishable food items to be handed out to the clients in the morning.
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE: Volunteers MUST wear closed-toed rubber-soled shoes. No sandals or flip flops.

Food Box Packin’ Tuesdays
This is a GREAT group activity for people from businesses, service organizations, churches, and youth groups.
Food boxes are packed using an assembly line to place cans and other non-perishables in boxes weighing 25-30 pounds. Most lifting is limited to a single food item.
Duties include: sorting, taping boxes, filling, some heavy lifting at the end of line, and breaking down boxes for re-cycling.
These food boxes are given out year-round to families and individuals in need.
We invite our volunteers to stay for a lunch.
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE: Volunteers MUST wear closed toed rubber soled shoes. No sandals or flip flops.
Help Wind Youth Services Feed Homeless Youth
Help Wind Youth Services feed Homeless Youth! Volunteers are needed to help donate and deliver lunches for about 25-30 youth every day at the Wind Youth Drop-in Center.
Please arrive between 11:00 and 11:30 a.m with your donation. Donated lunches can be delivered in a ziplock bag or paper lunch sack. The following are suggested items to include in each lunch:
- Sandwich bread
- Sandwich meat & cheese
- Mayo & mustard packets
- Fruit cups
- Cliff bars or granola bars
- Dried fruit and nuts
- Small bags of chips or cookies
- Bottled water
- ‘Fun Size’ candy bars
