MLK Day of Service at Natomas Rose Garden

City of Sacramento

Saturday, January 13 | 10:00 am – 12:00 noon

2921 Truxel Road, Sacramento, CA 95833 (next to South Natomas Library)

Minimum age: 14

Volunteers are needed to assist with the winter pruning of the Natomas Rose Garden. No experience needed. Please bring gloves, loppers (large pruners) if available.

MLK Day of Service District One PLAY

Saturday, January 13 | 11:00 am – 2:00 pm

Linden Park, 4001 Innovator Drive, Sacramento, CA 95834

Minimum age: 6 (with Adult)

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, District One PLAY will host a Day of Service.  All are welcome to come and help mulch. Please dress safely – closed toe shoes, no flip flops or sandals, long sleeves and no shorts. Wheelchair Rugby

Access Leisure

Tuesday, January 16 and 23| 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Rosa Parks Middle School, 2250 68th Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95822

Minimum age: 14

Join Access Leisure in facilitating the sport of Wheelchair Rugby for people with disabilities. Assist with court set up, loading and unloading equipment (chairs are heavy). Assist with transfers of athletes, and equipment fitting: gloves, belts etc. You may be asked to get into a rugby chair and participate if there’s not enough players. Volunteers must contact and fill out a volunteer form before coming to an event.

Volunteer for ALS Association as Office Administrator

The ALS Association, Greater Sacramento Chapter

Now through March 31 | 8 hours per week

The ALS Association (ALSA) in the only national not-for-profit voluntary health organization, dedicated solely to the fight against ALS through research, patient support, information dissemination and public awareness. They are in need of an Office Administrator who can commit to 8 hours per week.  The Chapter Volunteer Office Administrator is responsible for assisting the Chapter Staff in all aspects of Chapter administration.  Duties include: General Office/Reception tasks, Donation database and acknowledgments and provide support for fundraising events.

Help Access Leisure host an event for people with disabilities where everyone can sing! We will sing to the latest and greatest hits while enjoying an evening of food with friends. 5-8 Volunteers needed. Volunteers must contact and fill out a volunteer form before coming to an event.

Mills Middle STEM School is in need of adult volunteers that can direct students and families where to go during the event, supervise students and tables with interactive STEM activities in the cafeteria, and supervise students viewing the STEM FAIR Showcase in the library.

Sacramento Museum Day

Sacramento History Museum

Saturday, February 3 | 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Sacramento History Museum, Old Sacramento, CA 95814

Minimum age: 18

The Sacramento History Museum is participating in the 20th year of Sacramento Museum Day and needs volunteer support! The Sacramento History Museum will offer free admission, gold panning, and costumed reenactors at the museum. Over the course of the day, they expect to see about 2,000 or more people come to the museum and they need volunteer support to keep operations running smoothly. Morning and afternoon volunteer shifts available.

Festa di Vino

Food Literacy Center

The Point West Rotary Club is hosting their annual Festa di Vino event on February 24th, 2018 and they have chosen Food Literacy Center as their main beneficiary! They will need help with general event setup and cleanup as well as serving, tabling, and selling raffle tickets during the event.

Help Teach Healthy Eating in the Classroom

Food Literacy Center

Minimum age: 16 (with Adult)

Ever wanted to help kids in the community learn about healthy eating? Ever wanted to dress up as a vegetable or participate in other fennel fun food activities? Join Food Literacy Center tomatillo team! Their mission is to inspire kids to eat their vegetables. They teach low-income elementary children cooking and nutrition to improve our health, community, and environment. They currently teach food literacy in 10 after-school programs throughout the Sacramento area. Program typically runs on Monday-Thursday around 2:30-5:30 PM (depending on the school).

Conversation Practice / Instructional Assistant for Refugees Learning English

Bach Viet Association is helping Refugees and new immigrants in settling in our community. They are looking for conversation practice volunteers who will help teach English and immerse refugees with everyday conversations.

One Hour to Make a Difference – Reading Tutors Needed

Reading Partners

Minimum age: 14

Do you have one hour a week to make a difference in a child’s life? Volunteer as a literacy tutor with Reading Partners! Their program collaborates with local elementary schools to train community volunteers to provide one-on-one support and mentoring for elementary student readers. Tutors are paired to work with the same student for at least one semester, for one weekly 45-minute tutoring session. No previous experience is necessary! Reading Partners currently works within 8 schools in Sacramento, and seek volunteers to tutor Monday through Thursday, between 8 AM – 5 PM (hours may vary slightly from center to center).

Medical Reserve Corps Member

Sacramento Medical Reserve Corps

Minimum age: 18

The Sacramento Medical Reserve Corps engages volunteers to strengthen public health, emergency response and community resiliency. Join the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) and you will 1) Help the Sacramento region to be more prepared for a disaster or large-scale medical emergency; 2) Join a team of active and retired medical professionals and support volunteers; 3) Receive training on health and disaster-related topics to prepare our MRC membership to assist first responders with field triage in a large scale disaster, provide support to public health, provide triage and assistance to hospitals in a surge, provide medically related support to shelters and community support. Consider joining the Sacramento Medical Reserve Corps today!
