The season of love is here!  There are many ways to share love, and one of it involves volunteering!  Here are some of our volunteer opportunities for this month.

Send Your Love and Kindness this Valentine’s Day!

Meals on Wheels by ACC is hosting their annual Valentine’s Day Cardmaking Workshop on Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 10:00am-3:00pm! Help them craft cards filled with loving thoughts for the homebound seniors of our program at the ACC Center, located at 7334 Park City Drive, Sacramento, CA 95831! These cards will be sent out to 1,500 participants of their program- just in time to bring our seniors warm wishes and loving thoughts on Valentine’s Day.

Craft supplies and art materials to make cards will be provided. All ages welcome!

February Volunteer Opportunities

Mills Middle STEM Fair Help Needed

Folsom Cordova Unified School District

Thursday, February 1 – Friday, February 2| 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm & 8:00 am – 3:00 pm, respectively

Minimum age: 18

Mills Middle STEM School is in need of adult volunteers that can direct students and families where to go during the event, supervise students and tables with interactive STEM activities in the cafeteria, and supervise students viewing the STEM FAIR Showcase in the library.

Sacramento Museum Day

Sacramento History Museum

Saturday, February 3 | 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Sacramento History Museum, Old Sacramento, CA 95814

Minimum age: 18

The Sacramento History Museum is participating in the 20th year of Sacramento Museum Day and needs volunteer support! The Sacramento History Museum will offer free admission, gold panning, and costumed reenactors at the museum. Over the course of the day, they expect to see about 2,000 or more people come to the museum and they need volunteer support to keep operations running smoothly. Morning and afternoon volunteer shifts available.

Festa di Vino

Food Literacy Center

Minimum age: 16 (with Adult)

The Point West Rotary Club is hosting their annual Festa di Vino event on February 24th, 2018 and they have chosen Food Literacy Center as their main beneficiary! They will need help with general event setup and cleanup as well as serving, tabling, and selling raffle tickets during the event.

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Sacramento Fire Department and Community Foundation CPA Volunteer

Sacramento Fire Department and Community Foundation

January thru December 2018 | 5-10 hours a month

The Sacramento Fire Department and Community Foundation (SFDCF) is seeking a CPA (Certified Public Accountant for Nonprofits) who specializes in nonprofit accounting and taxes. The CPA will be tasked with reviewing the foundation’s treasurer ledgers and assist with filing the proper tax forms. The member will be welcomed to attend all Board meetings. This is strictly voluntary.

Pianist Needed for Senior Center

Are you looking to put your musical talents to good use? The Ethel Hart Senior Center, located at 915 27th Street, Sacramento, is seeking a volunteer/s to visit their congregate lunch program and play music to enhance the environment and promote an enjoyable experience for our guests.

Pianist volunteers are needed to provide live music from 11am-12pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays. They enjoy a wide variety of music from classical to contemporary and have a piano on site.

Desired qualifications: A musical talent or skill to share, interest in providing background music, friendly personality, punctual and reliable. Length of commitment- Can be short-term or ongoing, dependent on your availability and program needs.

Help Teach Healthy Eating in the Classroom

Food Literacy Center

Minimum age: 16 (with Adult)

Ever wanted to help kids in the community learn about healthy eating? Ever wanted to dress up as a vegetable or participate in other fennel fun food activities? Join Food Literacy Center tomatillo team! Their mission is to inspire kids to eat their vegetables. They teach low-income elementary children cooking and nutrition to improve our health, community, and environment. They currently teach food literacy in 10 after-school programs throughout the Sacramento area. Program typically runs on Monday-Thursday around 2:30-5:30 PM (depending on the school).

Conversation Practice / Instructional Assistant for Refugees Learning English

Minimum age: 16 (with Adult)
Bach Viet Association is helping Refugees and new immigrants in settling in our community. They are looking for conversation practice volunteers who will help teach English and immerse refugees with everyday conversations.

One Hour to Make a Difference – Reading Tutors Needed

Reading Partners

Minimum age: 14

Do you have one hour a week to make a difference in a child’s life? Volunteer as a literacy tutor with Reading Partners! Their program collaborates with local elementary schools to train community volunteers to provide one-on-one support and mentoring for elementary student readers. Tutors are paired to work with the same student for at least one semester, for one weekly 45-minute tutoring session. No previous experience is necessary! Reading Partners currently works within 8 schools in Sacramento, and seek volunteers to tutor Monday through Thursday, between 8 AM – 5 PM (hours may vary slightly from center to center).

Medical Reserve Corps Member

Sacramento Medical Reserve Corps

Minimum age: 18

The Sacramento Medical Reserve Corps engages volunteers to strengthen public health, emergency response and community resiliency. Join the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) and you will 1) Help the Sacramento region to be more prepared for a disaster or large-scale medical emergency; 2) Join a team of active and retired medical professionals and support volunteers; 3) Receive training on health and disaster-related topics to prepare our MRC membership to assist first responders with field triage in a large scale disaster, provide support to public health, provide triage and assistance to hospitals in a surge, provide medically related support to shelters and community support. Consider joining the Sacramento Medical Reserve Corps today!
