Spring is almost here!  This month, we are sharing volunteer opportunities that will make your March memorable.

Sabroso: Craft Beer, Taco & Music Festival

Sunday, April 8| 12:00 noon – 4:00 pm

Papa Murphy’s Park

Minimum age: 21+

Spring Break is in Sacramento! Sabroso: Craft Beer, Taco & Music Festival will feature up to four hours of craft beer tastings, tasty gourmet tacos, Lucha Libre style wrestling and live music!

Volunteers are needed to pour beer at the event. Call time is on or before 10:30 am and all volunteers are required to attend a short “responsible beer pouring” training session. Volunteers will also receive a free lunch. After their shift, they will be given a drink voucher and will be free to enjoy the rest of the event! Volunteers must be 21+.The shift will be from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm.

For each volunteer who pours beer at the event, the festival organizers will generously donate $50 to HandsOn Sacramento!

Goodwill Industries of Sacramento Valley & Northern Nevada is looking for their next Volunteer Services Administrative Assistant. The Volunteer Services Administrative Assistant is responsible for providing general administrative support to Goodwill’s volunteer program. Duties include responding to those who are interested in volunteering and helping them to schedule their shifts.

Girl Scouts Event Support Volunteer – Girls Leading Our Way (GLOW) Conference

Girl Scouts Heart of Central California

Saturday, April 7| 7:30 am – 10:30 am & 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Minimum age: 18

The 4th Annual Girls Leading Our Way Conference (GLOW) empowers Girl Scouts in grades 9-12 to step into leadership roles and drive change in the world. GLOW will offer hands-on workshops, inspiring guest speakers and exhibitors from leaders in the areas of STEM, entrepreneurship, outdoor adventure, and community impact. Event support volunteers will interact with Girl Scouts and staff to help deliver a quality conference to girls in grades 9-12. Volunteers  will help with event set up, clean up, registration and girl support.

Girl Scouts Event Support Volunteer – Stem Center Make-a-Palooza

Girl Scouts Heart of Central California

Saturday, May 5 | 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Minimum age: 18

Making change in communities takes many forms! At this event, Girl Scouts will explore how others are making change with art, design, tech and science and how they can, too. There will be several hands-on activities to spark girls’ curiosity and creativity. Volunteers are needed to assist in leading activities throughout the day, help with event set-up, check in and clean up, and ensure girls have the highest quality experience at this event.

Fab 40’s 5K Volunteer

Alzheimer’s Association

Tuesday, May 1 | 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

East Lawn Memorial Park

Minimum age: 14 (with Adult), 14+

The Fab 40’s 5K is an annual event hosted by East Lawn Memorial Park at their location in East Sacramento, benefitting the Alzheimer’s Association. There are numerous activities that volunteers can assist with between the hours of 6:30am-12:30pm, including:

Registration (6:30am-9:30am)-Check in participants, register day-of participants, and field questions about the event
T-shirt pick up (6:30-9:30am)-Hand out event t-shirts to participants
Route monitors (8:00-10:30am)-Ensure safety of and cheer on participants
Clean up (11:00am-12:30pm)-Assist with cleaning up the event site
Other assignments available between the hours of 6:30-11:00am
This is a great opportunity for service groups, students, Girl Scout troops, Boy Scout troops, company teams, or individuals.

Salesforce Data Entry

Goodwill Industries of Sacramento Valley and Northern Nevada

January thru December 2018 | 2-40 hours a week, flexible

Goodwill Sacramento has recently partnered with several nonprofits in the communities we serve, and we are in the process of migrating all the database records from each of the nonprofit organizations into one centralized Salesforce database.  We need volunteer(s) to help with cleaning up the data to ready it for import, assistance with the migration of data, and new entry.

Sacramento Fire Department and Community Foundation CPA Volunteer

Sacramento Fire Department and Community Foundation

January thru December 2018 | 5-10 hours a month

The Sacramento Fire Department and Community Foundation (SFDCF) is seeking a volunteer CPA (Certified Public Accountant for Nonprofits) who specializes in nonprofit accounting and taxes. The CPA will be tasked with reviewing the foundation’s treasurer ledgers and assist with filing the proper tax forms. The member will be welcomed to attend all Board meetings. This is strictly voluntary.

Pianist Needed for Senior Center

Hart Senior Center

Mondays thru Thursdays | 11:00 am – 12:00 noon

Are you looking to put your musical talents to good use? The Ethel Hart Senior Center, located at 915 27th Street, Sacramento, is seeking a volunteer/s to visit their Senior lunch program and play music to enhance the environment and promote an enjoyable experience for guests.

Pianist volunteers are needed to provide live music from 11am-12pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays. Attendees enjoy a wide variety of music from classical to contemporary.

Desired qualifications: A musical talent or skill to share, interest in providing background music, friendly personality, punctual and reliable. Length of commitment:  Can be short-term or ongoing, depending on your availability and program needs.

Help Teach Healthy Eating in the Classroom

Food Literacy Center

Minimum age: 16 (with Adult)

Ever wanted to help kids in the community learn about healthy eating? Ever wanted to dress up as a vegetable or participate in other fennel fun food activities? Join Food Literacy Center tomatillo team! Their mission is to inspire kids to eat their vegetables. They teach low-income elementary children cooking and nutrition to improve our health, community, and environment. They currently teach food literacy in 10 after-school programs throughout the Sacramento area. Program typically runs on Monday-Thursday around 2:30-5:30 PM (depending on the school).

Public Program Volunteer

Powerhouse Science Center

Minimum age: 16 (with Adult), 18

Do you have a passion for STEM learning or museum education? The Public Programs team at the Powerhouse Science Center offers hands-on learning experiences throughout the year, often facilitated by our volunteer pool. You do not have to be a scientist to join us, all we ask is that you are excited to inspire tomorrow’s scientists today!
