Sabroso: Craft Beer, Taco & Music Festival

Sunday, April 8| 12:00 noon – 4:00 pm

Papa Murphy’s Park

Minimum age: 21+

Spring Break is in Sacramento! Sabroso: Craft Beer, Taco & Music Festival will feature up to four hours of craft beer tastings, tasty gourmet tacos, Lucha Libre style wrestling and live music!

Volunteers are needed to pour beer at the event. Call time is on or before 10:30 am and all volunteers are required to attend a short “responsible beer pouring” training session. Volunteers will also receive a free lunch. After their shift, they will be given a drink voucher and will be free to enjoy the rest of the event! Volunteers must be 21+.The shift will be from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm.

For each volunteer who pours beer at the event, the festival organizers will generously donate $50 to HandsOn Sacramento!

Girl Scouts Event Support Volunteer –

Girls Leading Our Way (GLOW) Conference

Girl Scouts Heart of Central California

The 4th Annual Girls Leading Our Way Conference (GLOW) empowers Girl Scouts in grades 9-12 to step into leadership roles and drive change in the world. GLOW will offer hands-on workshops, inspiring guest speakers and exhibitors from leaders in the areas of STEM, entrepreneurship, outdoor adventure, and community impact. Event support volunteers will interact with Girl Scouts and staff to help deliver a quality conference to girls in grades 9-12. Volunteers  will help with event set up, clean up, registration and girl support.

Girl Scouts Event Support Volunteer – Stem Center Make-a-Palooza

Girl Scouts Heart of Central California

Saturday, May 5 | 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Minimum age: 18

Making change in communities takes many forms! At this event, Girl Scouts will explore how others are making change with art, design, tech and science and how they can, too. There will be several hands-on activities to spark girls’ curiosity and creativity. Volunteers are needed to assist in leading activities throughout the day, help with event set-up, check in and clean up, and ensure girls have the highest quality experience at this event.

April Volunteer Opportunities

 

Fab 40’s 5K Volunteer

Alzheimer’s Association

Tuesday, May 1 | 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

East Lawn Memorial Park

Minimum age: 14 (with Adult), 14+

The Fab 40’s 5K is an annual event hosted by East Lawn Memorial Park at their location in East Sacramento, benefitting the Alzheimer’s Association. There are numerous activities that volunteers can assist with between the hours of 6:30am-12:30pm, including:

Registration (6:30am-9:30am)-Check in participants, register day-of participants, and field questions about the event
T-shirt pick up (6:30-9:30am)-Hand out event t-shirts to participants
Route monitors (8:00-10:30am)-Ensure safety of and cheer on participants
Clean up (11:00am-12:30pm)-Assist with cleaning up the event site
Other assignments available between the hours of 6:30-11:00am
This is a great opportunity for service groups, students, Girl Scout troops, Boy Scout troops, company teams, or individuals.

Sacramento Food Film Festival: Broccoli HQ

Food Literacy Center

Saturday, April 21 | 12:00 am – 8:30 am

The Colonial Theater

Minimum age: 16 (with adult), 18+

 

Food Literacy Center is eggplant excited to be sharing the future plans for Broccoli HQ. The evening will showcase the architectural drawings accompanied with an “ideal school lunch” dinner. They will need help with set-up, ushering, serving, and clean-up for this event. The Sacramento Food Film Festival is an opportunity to educate the public about their food system, and work collaboratively to create positive change and improve food literacy.

Latina Action Day

Hispanas Organized for Political Equality

The Latina Action Day Conference convenes 500 Latina leaders in Sacramento from all over California. This one day conference is designed to facilitate dialogue between corporate and community Latina leaders and elected officials on public policies affecting Latinas in California. Through town halls, public hearings, and workshops, HOPE presents up to date information, analysis, and access to decision makers on critical issues such as healthcare reform, higher education, and the California State budget. Volunteers are needed to assist with the workshops and registration, set-up/clean-up, and greet attendees.

Getting Kids Outdoors

Sierra Club Inspiring Connections Outdoors

Minimum age: 16+ (with adult), 18+

 

Sacramento Inspring Connections Outdoors, a program of the Sierra Club, is a 100% volunteer organization that provides experiences in nature for youth who would not otherwise have the opportunity to get outdoors to learn about and enjoy nature. By introducing participants to the transformative power of nature Inspiring Connections Outdoors (ICO) supports John Muir’s assertion that people who experience wilderness firsthand are much more likely to preserve it for future generations.

Volunteers can help in a variety of way: lead and assist on trips; prepare meals for outings; assist with equippment and supplies; do administrative chores; and help with fundarising!

Computer Science Intern

City of Sacramento

The City of Sacramento is looking for their next Computer Science Intern. Implementation of this position allows technical expertise from Computer Science students to coordinate with projects requiring innovative solutions for compliance and integration between existing HR databases. They should possess complex algorithm authorship in languages such as C+, C++, SQL, Python, etc. Familiarity with PSQuery. Other duties include: Project assistance as pertains to database integration, script writing, and support with automation of systems. Code writing, research, and testing of executable scripts for use in HR systems.

Senior Congragate Meal Volunteers at the Hart Senior Center

Seeking outgoing individuals who can assist with our daily lunch program and help promote a friendly, efficient environment. Duties may include: Assisting with greeting guests, recording meals served, orienting and helping new guests complete intake forms, socializing with seniors, assisting with individual needs, such as serving food and beverages, condiments, etc., and other tasks to create a welcoming, supportive atmosphere. Volunteers work from approximately 10:15am-12:15pm, Monday through Friday (dependent on scheduling needs).

Sacramento Fire Department and Community Foundation

January thru December 2018 | 5-10 hours a month

The Sacramento Fire Department and Community Foundation (SFDCF) is seeking a volunteer CPA (Certified Public Accountant for Nonprofits) who specializes in nonprofit accounting and taxes. The CPA will be tasked with reviewing the foundation’s treasurer ledgers and assist with filing the proper tax forms. The member will be welcomed to attend all Board meetings. This is strictly voluntary.

Pianist Needed for Senior Center

Are you looking to put your musical talents to good use? The Ethel Hart Senior Center, located at 915 27th Street, Sacramento, is seeking a volunteer/s to visit their Senior lunch program and play music to enhance the environment and promote an enjoyable experience for guests.

Pianist volunteers are needed to provide live music from 11am-12pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays. Attendees enjoy a wide variety of music from classical to contemporary.

Desired qualifications: A musical talent or skill to share, interest in providing background music, friendly personality, punctual and reliable. Length of commitment:  Can be short-term or ongoing, depending on your availability and program needs.

Do you have a passion for STEM learning or museum education? The Public Programs team at the Powerhouse Science Center offers hands-on learning experiences throughout the year, often facilitated by our volunteer pool. You do not have to be a scientist to join us, all we ask is that you are excited to inspire tomorrow’s scientists today!

Salesforce Data Entry

Goodwill Industries of Sacramento Valley and Northern Nevada

Goodwill Sacramento has recently partnered with several nonprofits in the communities we serve, and we are in the process of migrating all the database records from each of the nonprofit organizations into one centralized Salesforce database.  We need volunteer(s) to help with cleaning up the data to ready it for import, assistance with the migration of data, and new entry.

Help Pack Lunches for Homeless Youth 

Wind Youth Services

Minimum age: 15 (with Adult), 18

 

Wind Youth Services needs volunteers to help donate, prepare and deliver sack lunches for about 25-30 youth every day at the Wind Youth Drop-in Center.

Please arrive between 11:00 and 11:30 a.m with your donation. Donated lunches can be delivered in a ziplock bag or paper lunch sack. The following are suggested items to include in each lunch:

  • Sandwich bread
  • Sandwich meat & cheese
  • Mayo & mustard packets
  • Fruit cups
  • Cliff bars or granola bars
  • Dried fruit and nuts
  • Small bags of chips or cookies
  • Juice
  • Bottled water
  • ‘Fun Size’ candy bars
