As June rolls in, so do our upcoming volunteer opportunities! Big events will need volunteers including World Refugee Day, South Fork American River Clean ups, as well as ongoing opportunities to help out as museum volunteers. Check it out!

World Refugee Day – Soccer & Carnival

Join Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services for their first ever collaborative, community-wide celebration for World Refugee Day on June 20th. Events include a refugee soccer tournament, a carnival for families, food and beverages and a vendor fair for refugees.

Sacramento Walk to End Alzheimer’s Committee

Alzheimer’s Association
Minimum age (with adult): 14, 18+

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s care, support, research, and advocacy. This event will be returning to Sacramento in the fall of 2018 and they need your help to make it happen! You will have opportunities to serve on sub-committees such as sponsorship, recruitment, retention, marketing and outreach, AIM (Alzheimer’s Impact Movement) Advocacy, Mission, and Logistics. Traning will be provided and committee calls happen regularly.

South Fork American River Clean Ups

Upper (Chili Bar Run)

American River Conservancy
Tuesday, June 19th | 9:00am – 2:00pm
Minimum (with Adult):12+, Minimum Age:12+

Join the American River Conservancy in partnership with El Dorado County Parks for their 3 South Fork American River Clean ups! This event is in need of volunteers who will help remove trash along the shores of South Fork American River. This corridor is very diverse, as 117 different bird species, both habitat type and wildlife, claim it as their home. Lunch will be provided for volunteers after the cleanup. Make sure to wear secure shoes and wear quick-dry, lightweight synthetic fabrics that will cover your legs and arms.

June Volunteer Opportunities


Time Traveler Summer Camp Volunteers

The California Museum

Monday, June 25th – Friday, June 29th ; Monday, July 16th – Friday, July 20th | 9:00am-12:30pm ; 12:30pm-5:00pm

Minimum age: 18

Help kids explore 10,000 years of history and culture in the California Time Traveler Camp! This summer camp is geared towards young adventurers ages 6-11 and offers engaging learning experiences as participants travel back in time to the state’s significant eras. A combination of exhibit tours, excursions to nearby sites and hands-on activities, daily itineraries begin on Monday in modern California and end on Friday in the state’s prehistoric past over 10,000 years ago. The Museum is looking for camp volunteers to help implement crafts and activities and assist staff with off-site supervision of campers.

Schoolmarms & School Masters Needed

City of Sacramento | The Old Sacramento Schoolhouse Museum

Now until August 1, 2018

Minimum age: 18+

The Old Sacramento Schoolhouse Museum is looking for new docents to volunteer as schoolmarms or school masters. Volunteers should enjoy sharing information, like history, have one or two half-days a month to volunteer, like children, enjoy dressing up in costume and want to be a part of a living history program. Volunteers meet visitors from all over the world and across the country, many of whom are teachers or have family members who taught or attended a one-room school.

After-School Program Assistant (Sunset Valley – Wheatland)

Mercy Housing California

Monday thru Thursday | 2:30 pm – 5:00 pm

Minimum age: 18

Mercy Housing is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to assist with the after-school program onsite at Sunset Valley Apartments. With staff support, volunteers will assist middle and elementary aged youth to complete homework and build literacy skills. Volunteers will also help implement physical education and art activities throughout the semester. Gain experience in an educational setting, learn about affordable housing, and give back to your community- all while having fun!

Home Energy Conservation Program

Rebuilding Together Sacramento

Tuesday thru Thursday mornings

Minimum age: 18

Rebuilding Together Sacramento is looking for volunteer installers who will help lower energy consumption in the homes of families with low income, as well as homes of the elderly, disabled or families with children.  Volunteers will serve a two to four-hour weekly or bi-weekly shift.  Supplies will be provided, but volunteers must be willing to provide a driver’s license and auto insurance information.

Volunteer with your Group to Deliver Meals!

Meals on Wheels by ACC

Ongoing until July 2018

Minimum age: 1 (with adult), 18

Meals on Wheels by ACC will need volunteers to lend a caring hand to seniors who are isolated, alone, fragile and in need of a nutritious meal.  Volunteers will deliver a bag of shelf-stable food to seniors during emergencies and check-in with the seniors to ensure safety in their homes.  Background check information will be needed and a quick senior safety and California Department of Aging security training will be provided.

Help Out at the PCTA Office

Pacific Crest Trail Association

Monday thru Friday | 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Help the Pacific Crest Trail Association manage 2,000+ annual volunteers! They are looking for volunteers who can help with office administration and volunteer management. This is a rewarding chance to give back to the trail and become part of the PCT community. Duties/responsibilities include filing/organizing paper and photo records, assembling mailings and database management (Raiser’s Edge).
