Advanced Care Health Planning Volunteers

Yolo Hospice
Thursday, September 6th | 10:30am – 2:30pm
Minimum (with Adult): 16+, Minimum Age: 18+

Yolo Hospice is hosting an event about Advanced Care Health Planning Thursday, Sept. 6 at the Winters Community Center at 201 Railroad Ave. in Winters, California. They need physical labor help moving 10 round tables into the room, set up chairs, and then break down at the end of the event. Set up is at 10:30am and would need at least two people then and again to break down at 2:00pm

I Feel Joy Wall

Yolo Hospice
Ongoing until December 2018
Minimum (with Adult): 1+, Minimum Age: 18+

The “I feel joy when” wall is a public art chalk board display located at Regal Davis Holiday 6 theaters at 101 F St, Davis, CA 95616.  They are in need of wall monitoring for inappropriate language in Hindi, Persian, and Korean.

Hospice Volunteer

Bristol Hospice
Minimum Age (with adult): 18+, Minimum Age: 18+

Bristol Hospice is looking for the following volunteers:

  • Patient volunteer – provides companionship to a patient and their family. This include reading to the patient, singing, listening to their stories, praying with them or just holding their hand while they sleep, respite care, simple errands and do light housekeeping. Their most important role is to be a comforting and supportive presence.
  • Office volunteer – file, produce computer documents, stuff envelopes or assist with data entry. They may help make phone calls to the bereaved families 3-12 month after experiencing their loss, and may be asked to work a booth during outreach events.

Food is a Human Right – Volunteer at a Partner Agency Conference!

Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services
Friday, September 7th | 6:30am – 3:30am
Minimum Age (with adult): 16+, Minimum Age: 16+

The Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services are looking for volunteers for their 3rd Annual Partner Agency Conference. There will be two shifts, each with a different task. You may help with the event set-up, direct vehicles to event parking and greet attendees or help with clean up, bussing tables at lunch and assisting in the raffle.

Volunteers Needed for HUGE Free Medical, Dental & Vision Clinic

California CareForce
Friday, September 21st until Sunday, September 23rd | 6:00am – 4:00pm
Minimum (with Adult): 16+, Minimum Age: 18+

California CareForce is excited to return to Cal Expo to providee 100% FREE critical healthcare to 1,500-2,500 under-served individuals. Last year, over $750,000 worth of services were provided — and they hope to provide even more this year! They will be needing 600-1,000 volunteers to help with Medical, Dental and Vision services. Breakfast, lunch, snack and drinks will be provided in addition to a free volunteer t-shirt and Certificate of Service.

September Volunteer Opportunities

Lewis/Didion Park Spruce-Up

City of Sacramento
Saturday, September 8th | 1:00pm – 4:00pm
Minimum (with Adult): 14+, Minimum Age: 14+

Volunteers are needed on Saturday, September 8th from 1 pm to 4 pm! Join Council Member Rick Jennings, Trustee Darrel Woo and District 7 Parks Commissioner Devin Lavelle to help repaint, clean, and do some light weeding at Lewis/Didion Park, 6570 Park Riviera Way, Sacramento 95831. All equipment provided. Snacks provided by Commissioner Devin Lavelle. Wear sunscreen, closed-toed shoes and clothes that can get dirty.

Community Days

City of Sacramento

Minimum (with Adult): 18+, Minimum Age: 18+

Greetings from Fairytale Town! Volunteers are needed to help with the monthly Sacramento Adventure Playground activities. It will be a fun day of building, playing, and making a mess! Volunteers must be 18 or older, or with an approved service club. Volunteer shifts are from 10:30am-4pm. Community days are the 2nd Saturday of each month February-November.

Land Park Volunteer Corps

Join members of the community for the next Land Park Volunteer Corps workday in William Land Park on Saturday, September 8th at 8 am. Come out to help trim, clean, weed, mulch and otherwise spiff up Land Park. So grab a pair of gloves and pitch in (you’ll even get a breakfast boost from Espresso Metro at the beginning of the day and a free lunch after you finish at 11 am). The group meets directly behind Fairytale Town (3901 Land Park Drive). Groups and individuals are welcome.

The Great Sierra River Cleanup

American River Conservancy
Saturday, September 15th | 9:00am – 12:00pm
Minimum (with Adult): 8+, Minimum Age: 14+

Don’t miss this year’s annual Great Sierra River Cleanup Day Saturday, September 15th! 9am to Noon with volunteer appreciation lunch to follow at Wakamatsu Farm

Clean up will happen at various sites in the region including Hangtown Creek, South Fork American River, Traverse Creek, Cosumnes River and Folsom Reservoir.

The Great Sierra River CleanUp is a partner with California Coastal Cleanup Day. For 26 years, California Coastal Cleanup Day has been the state’s premier effort to involve the public in the stewardship of our coast, ocean, and rivers.

Celebrity Chef Cook-Off

Achieving Positive Thinking Worldwide
Saturday, September 15th | 7:00pm – 9:00pm
Minimum (with Adult): 10+, Minimum Age: 18+

Achieving Positive Thinking Worldwide is asking for volunteers who can help them with their community outreach event:

1.  Registration Table

2.  Event set-up and break down as well as cleaning after the event.

3.  Silent and live auction help

4.  Sit at vendor table/silent auction table

5.  Helping celebrities and/or professional speakers before, during and after the Celebrity Chef Cook-Off Charity FUNdraiser.

6.  Other miscellaneous volunteer duties and needed or suggested.

7.  Greeting and directing guests, celebrities, vendors, etc.

For example loading and unloading their items from their car to inside Arden Hills Resort Club & Spa. Ensuring that the professional speakers’ needs are met.


1.  Distribute flyers BEFORE the CHARITY event.

2.  Fold the free paper samples that are given away. Folding the FREE samples is also a great sit down job for someone who doesn’t want to stand or walk for a long time. This can be done at home!

Sacramento Crisis Nursery Century Bike Ride Volunteers

Sacramento Children’s Home
Saturday, October 6th | 6:00am – 8:00pm
Minimum (with Adult):16+, Minimum Age:16+

Help support the Sacramento Children’s Home Crisis Nursery and volunteer at the Sacramento Century Bike Ride sponsored by the Rotary Club of Sacramento.  They will need volunteers to support this big one-day event throughout the day. Volunteers are needed to staff 3 to 4-hour shifts on Saturday, October 6, 2018. Volunteer duties will include: check-in and registration, handing out food and water to riders,  parking monitors, set-up and take down, bike valets just to name a few. This is the perfect volunteer opportunity for youth and other service groups.

Do you have two hours a week to make a difference in the life of homebound seniors? For many who can no longer cook for themselves, this is their only hot meal for the day AND the volunteer is the only person they see that day. Meals on Wheels Yolo County will provide the food – you help provide the friendship.

Call for Host Families in Sacramento Area for Foreign Exchange Students

American Councils for International Education
Minimum (with Adult):18+, 18+
American Councils for International Education, an international nonprofit with 40 years of experience, is looking for American families interested in hosting an international high school exchange student for the 2018-2019 school year.
American Councils welcomes all types of families interested in hosting an exchange student. Their host families are as varied as the U.S. population itself, from single parents to couples without children, to military families, empty nesters, and retirees. The requirements are straightforward: host families must speak English as a primary language; provide students with a supportive environment, a bed to sleep in and a place to study along with three meals a day and snacks; and a window into American life.

Educate the Community on Brain Health!

Alzheimer’s Association
Minimum age: 18+

Community Educators act as the face of the Alzheimer’s Association, presenting educational programs at community gatherings, such as corporate wellness events, public health fairs, service club meetings, and other events.

Presentations are based on volunteer’s experience and may include “Know the 10 Signs,” “Healthy Living for your Brain & Body,” “Getting Connected,” and “Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia.” Community Educators are asked to observe education programs, co-present with staff, and then lead presentations on their own. Training and resource materials are provided.

Retail Production Volunteer

Goodwill Industries Sacramento Valley & Northern Nevada

Minimum age: 16+
The Retail Production Volunteer is responsible for assisting the Goodwill staff with store operations by providing customer service and donation processing assistance. You will be volunteering alongside potentially disabled and/or disadvantaged individuals who are gaining job skills and expertise.

Volunteer with your Group to Deliver Meals!

Meals on Wheels by ACC
Minimum age: 1 (with Adult), 18
Meals on Wheels by ACC will need volunteers to lend a caring hand to seniors who are isolated, alone, fragile and in need of a nutritious meal. Volunteers will deliver a bag of shelf-stable food to seniors during emergencies and check-in with the seniors to ensure safety in their homes. Background check information will be needed and a quick senior safety and California Department of Aging security training will be provided.

Volunteers are a tremendously valuable resource in helping get the word out about Face2Face Youth Group and what they do to help youth. Volunteer opportunities include the following: Ambassador, Class Facilitator, Group Discussion Facilitator and Referee.

Volunteer Bell Ringer

Salvation Army Sacramento County

Minimum age: 18
Making a difference is just one ring away. As you know, bell ringing in front of various locations has been a holiday tradition for The Salvation Army, but there is now a need for volunteers to help staff the different bell ringing sites this Christmas season. Money raised through the bell ringing efforts will help fund Salvation Army programs and services, supporting local families and individuals in need of assistance.

United Way California Capital Region – Free Tax Prep

This year our local Free Tax Prep programs helped working people in your community get back over $10 million in tax refunds. United Way California Capital Region is looking for volunteers to help make an even greater impact next year. They have opportunities for everyone. Volunteer roles include greeters, tax preparers, translators, and more. No experience necessary. All volunteers receive expert training. With over forty locations and various hours, schedules are flexible. Information sessions are scheduled for Wednesday, October 24th and Saturday, October 27th.
