HandsOn Sacramento welcomes a new schoolyear and a new season!
This month, new partner agencies just joined the HandsOn Sacramento family such as Make-a Wish Foundation, Midtown Parks and Fair Oaks Recreation and Park District. We have exciting new opportunities this month and next month. September is going to be big on volunteering, and we want YOU to join the fun!

New HandsOn Sacramento Agency Partners

Make-A-Wish Northeastern California and Northern Nevada

Make-A-Wish® Northeastern California and Northern Nevada’s mission is to grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions and to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

Fair Oaks Recreation and Park District

Fair Oaks Recreation and Park District’s mission is to maximize all available resources to deliver well maintained parks, high quality recreation facilities, programs and events. They do this through effective partnerships with other service providers thus helping meet the quality of life expectations, building community pride, and supporting the economic goals of the community. They measure success by providing adequate access and connections to trails, parks, sports and recreation facilities that meet the needs of our citizens and visitors to our community.
Fair Oaks Recreation and Park District is inviting volunteers to help out at their Annual Chicken Festival on Saturday, September 21st. Volunteer opportunities are available in their different booths such as Kids’ Park Carnival Games, Info Booth, T-Shirt Sales and so much more! Click the link below to learn more.

Midtown Parks

Midtown Parks’ goal is to increase health and community engagement. They support the well-being of the community by creating centrally-located public space designed to provide opportunities for recreation, leisure, and to build relationships with neighbors. This means parks and open spaces are open to everyone who would like to pursue an active lifestyle and promote social interaction.
Midtown Parks is looking for volunteers for their first-ever fundraiser, the Midtown Mini Golf Tournament, happening on September 21st 2019 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Volunteers will receive free food and refreshments, as well as a volunteer badge and lanyard.

Great Sierra River Cleanup

American River Conservancy
Saturday, September 21st| 8:30am – 12:00pm
Minimum Age: 1 (with adult), 16
Join the American River Conservancy for the 11th Annual Great Sierra River Cleanup! Cleanup sites include Hangtown Creek, South Fork American River, Travese Creek, Cosumnes River and Folsom Reservoir. This event is great for family volunteering!

United Way Day of Caring

Salvation Army Sacramento County
Saturday, September 21st | 9:00am – 2:00pm
Minimum Age: 16 (with adult), 18
The Salvation Army’s Transitional Living Center will be participating in United Way’s Day of Caring on Saturday, September 21st. Volunteer opportunities include touching up painting on playground murals, garden clean-up, raking, pulling weeds and adding bark to pathways.

25th Annual California Brewer’s Festival

Saturday, September 21st | 10:30am – 5:00pm
Minimum Age: 21
The 25th Annual California Brewer’s Festival chose WEAVE, Inc. as their beneficiary for their event. Volunteers are needed to help check-in attendees, hand out programs and cups, check IDs, put on wristbands and greet attendees. Parking is $5. Water and snacks will be provided.

Hite Park Volunteer Day!

City of Sacramento
Saturday, September 28th | 1:00pm – 4:00pm
Minimum Age: 23 (with adult), 14
Volunteers are needed to spruce up Hite Park (5375 Valley Hi Drive) on Saturday, September 28th. Equipment and snacks are provided. Wear sunscreen and appropriate clothing. RSVP is requested.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer’s Association
Saturday, September 28th | 6:00am – 2:00pm
Minimum Age: 12 (with adult), 18
The Alzheimer’s Assocation is looking for volunteers who will help with the event set-up, registration and check-in, water stations, advocacy efforts, cheerleading and more! Over 3,500 volunteers are needed to help raise awareness and bring passion for the cause.

Outdoor Work – Beautify the Family Service Center

Minimum Age: 18
Help beautify The Salvation Army’s Family Service Center. Trim shrubs and weeds. Sweep or blow the drive and sidewalk. Create a beautiful entrance to greet families who visits for assistance and food.

Sacramento Children’s Home Century Bike Ride

Sacramento Children’s Home
Saturday, October 5th
Minimum Age: 12 (with adult), 15
Help support the Sacramento Children’s Home Crisis Nursery and volunteer at the Sacramento Century Bike Ride. Volunteers are needed to staff 2-4 hour shifts throughout Saturday, October 5th. Duties include check-in and registration, handing out food and water to riders, cheering riders at the finish line, set-up and take down, and bike valets. Groups and youth volunteers are highly encouraged to join. Volunteers will receive snacks/lunch and an event t-shirt.

Helping Handbag Luncheon and Auction

The Salvation Army Sacramento County
Saturday, October 12th | 9:15am-4:00pm
Minimum Age: 18
Volunteers are needed for the 14th Annual Women’s Auxiliary’s Helping Handbags Luncheon and Auction. Volunteer duties include assisting with registration and check out, and assisting with the silent and live auction. Call time for volunteers is at 9:15 am, when an orientation is required to attend. Lunch will be provided.

Empowering YOU to Empower YOU 2019

Achieving Positive Thinking Worldwide
Saturday, October 19th | various shifts available
Minimum Age: 18
Achieving Positive Thinking Worldwide is looking for volunteers for their community outreach events. Duties include registration, set-up and clean up, silent and live auction, greeters and many more.
