SACRAMENTO – HandsOn Sacramento celebrated Family Volunteer Day last Saturday, November 23rd, 2019. Family Volunteer Day is a global day of service that celebrates the power of families who work together to support their communities and neighborhoods. Powered by generationOn, the youth division of Points of Light, and sponsored by The Walt Disney Company, Family Volunteer Day is a great way for families to make a mark on the communities they support.
Over 50 volunteers participated in this event. This includes families, high school youth groups, individuals, and nonprofit partners. Our volunteers, from toddlers to seniors, made a difference at three of City of Refuge Sacramento’s locations in Oak Park. City of Refuge Sacramento is a nonprofit organization that supports people living in marginalized communities in Sacramento and empowers their ability to create a personal transformation that will lead to a healthy and thriving community.
Our Goodwill Family also participated in this event. We’re glad to see team members from the stores, including supporters from the corporate office, Next Move Family Services, and Francis House.
Volunteers helped create City of Refuge’s locations a safe haven and ready for the holidays. They assembled bunk beds, painted bedrooms, the hallway, and the bathroom, decorated the house with Christmas decors and adding their own creations for a personal touch, created rocks of encouragement for the backyard, planted winter vegetables, cleaned windows, removed cobwebs, decluttered old toys and installed new locks on bedroom doors.
We’re grateful for our volunteers for making Family Volunteer Day a success! We also thank City of Refuge Sacramento for partnering with us and for giving us the opportunity to make a mark in Oak Park’s community.
